About

A creative practice in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland: brand, digital, video and photography, led by strategy and built around your goals.
Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), Aotearoa based. Some of the amazing people I have worked with include The Light Project, Asthma NZ, Mission Without Borders, World Freedom Network, Better Packaging Co., SUPA.energy and more. The work spans filming, brand identity, digital, and print work, utilising a strategy-first approach to integrate touch points and unify brand presence.
Phil Botha works with organisations that want their brand, website and content pulling in the same direction. The work spans brand identity, websites and digital products, film and photography, campaigns and print, from the first workshop through launch and beyond.
Every project runs on the toolkit: understand the people the work is for, prototype until the direction proves itself, build with tools your team can run, then keep optimising once it is live. It is a practice built on evidence and adoption rather than handover and goodbye, and some clients have stayed for over a decade.
More recent partners include Tectonus and Toitoi Collective.
Where the fields overlap
The value is in the overlaps. Most projects pass between specialists. A strategist writes the positioning, a designer draws the mark, a copywriter finds the voice, a developer builds the site, and a film crew turns up later and does its best to match. Each handover loses a little of the original intent.
Here the same person does the research, designs the identity, writes the words, builds the technology and directs the film. So the logo and the tagline are shaped together. The tone of the website copy is the narrative voice of the case study video. The positioning agreed in the first workshop is the one being held when the booking flow is built. Nothing has to be re-explained, and nothing quietly drifts.
That only works because the work starts with people rather than deliverables. Every engagement opens with a proper empathy round: interviews, listening, and understanding what your customers, funders or patients are trying to do, and what you need from them in return. The crafts then line up behind that understanding. It is less a production line than one continuous conversation, carried into whatever medium the moment calls for.
For you it means fewer briefs, fewer meetings spent translating between suppliers, and a brand that feels like one thing wherever people meet it.
